Mazères Cassagne Sports

The club

The MCS is above all a story full of twists and turns, a story of family and heart, a story shared by all Bas Salat rugby lovers, well beyond the two towns of Mazères sur Salat and Cassagne. The MCS is a state of mind that we share from childhood by treading the facilities of Bouque de Lens, a pride to represent this club and all its values and an honor to wear this red and black jersey.

Rugby was born in Mazères in 1908, with the arrival at the Lacroix paper mills of an English engineer, Mr Huggins. Evolving from the colors blue and white, the color of the notebook has rolled cigarettes, to red and black today, from the Stadoceste Mazérien originally, to the Mazères Cassagne Sports today.

The MCS is always a “separate” case in rugby training. It is a school “! Even today, all the licensees, players and managers of the club, work to bring this entity that is Mazères Cassagne Sports to the highest level…

A jersey that illustrious players have worn: Albert Cigagna, Hervé Manent, William Servat, Julien Rey, Pierre Bernard, Lucas Poirson etc…. But also our international player Manon André. Note that his older brother is the current captain of the first team.

The beautiful story

It was in 1908, under the impetus of a paper engineer, M.-Huggins, that Stadoceste Mazérien was born.

The club knew a strong enthusiasm of these first years. On victory nights, the band of the Mazères paper mills gave the aubade and all this ended with memorable banquets.

The war of 1914-1918 was to stop this momentum. Many young people did not return: 50% of the workforce of 1914 disappeared.

In 1919, the survivors and young people regrouped a

around M.-Fournier, recreated the team. The 1923-1924 season marked the peak of Stadoceste Mazérien, which became champion of the Pyrenees, third series, beating Carbonne (3-0). Alas! this success was short-lived, with the club subsequently falling dormant. There was no longer a team but the love of the oval ball was still simmering and under the impetus of the teacher M.-Bourgade, the school boys were getting started. The penance was to last ten years. In 1935, the desire was the strongest, some young people started to want to wear this “red and black” jersey again, dear to their hearts and thanks to a quest, they were able to buy equipment and put the Mazerian Stadoceste back on track. A few victories and as many defeats brought the two mayors of Cassagnes and Mazères, MM.Robert and André Lacroix, to announce the creation of Mazères Cassagne Sports.

Many elders of the Mazerian Stadoceste resumed service. Extraordinary enthusiasm of the population which followed all the matches in particular during the good season 1937-1938, punctuated by a final of the championship of the Pyrenees against the Taxis of Toulouse and the road of the championship of France stopped by the Gallia of Perpignan.

From 1939 to 1941, interruption due to the war but as soon as the resumption (1941-1942), glorious season for the MCS which out of twenty-five games won twenty-three, drew one game, lost one against Graulhet, this which cost him the title.

At the release in the middle of the general joy, a small drama comes to shake the MCS.

The municipalities and the mayors being deposited, the club saw all the aid removed. We had to hold out at all costs, a new quest from the inhabitants of the two villages, who responded beyond all expectations since the product was much higher than the grants allocated and the club was saved.

Since then the club has oscillated between good and less good results, knowing various news that it has had to face. Nowadays, the club is in good health at the highest regional level with 2 titles won in 2 years.
